The year 2024 has been a year of remarkable value creation and impact for Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS). After more than a decade of volunteering excellence, YSS continues to deliver on its aspiration to become a global hub for student volunteer leadership that empowers national unity, through vast industrial linkages and strategic partnerships with higher learning institutions across Malaysia.
Youths are the lifeblood of any nation — passionate, enthusiastic, and brimming with energy to discover their potential. They are the innovators, our future leaders, and our awaited changemakers. Investing in youth empowerment is more than a social responsibility gesture; it is an investment in a better and sustainable future, nurturing a generation of responsible citizens adept at addressing the pressing social challenges of the 21st century.
Volunteerism is no longer just a charitable act or a marker of responsible citizenship — it transcends previous understandings of personal and societal growth. This was a key theme at IVCO 2023, where global youth leadership and contribution were framed as missing pieces of the puzzle toward nation-building and a sustainable future. At YSS, student volunteers are constantly channelled with the right resources and opportunities to grow, learn, thrive and play their part in society through experiential learning.
2024 witnessed the perseverance and unwavering dedication of student volunteers tirelessly building a more united Malaysia. The addition of Kedah and Kelantan to the “Ini Warisan Kita” initiative marked a new milestone in YSS’s history, forecasting a better prospect for the widespread growth of its impact. The year also saw the appointment of 305 Unity Agents from the YSS alumni community, handpicked for their commitment to advancing societal welfare — individuals who will continue to spearhead Malaysia’s volunteerism landscape.
YSS believes in the power of “youths lead, youths initiate.” Now, with more than 2,000 young contingents of student volunteers and dozens of high-impact projects behind it, YSS envisions raising its volunteering standards in line with the National Unity Agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals — broadening its impact abroad, and developing an extensive alumni network and comprehensive leadership development modules to build a cohesive and harmonious society.
