Participating in the YSS Students Volunteer Mission in Kampung Merotai Besar, Tawau, Sabah, was a life-changing experience that touched me deeply. Standing among children who struggled with limited access to education, food, and basic necessities, I felt both heartache and a strong sense of responsibility. During this journey, I was humbled to receive the Star Golden Hearts Award 2025 as the youngest recipient in history.
My love for volunteering began in childhood, when I accompanied my grandmother to orphanages. I remember helping her cook meals for the children and seeing their eyes light up with joy despite their hardships. That simple act made me promise my younger self that when I grew up, I would dedicate my life to changing their lives.
Through YSS, I learned that acts of kindness, however small, carry immense power. To all youth and alumni: never underestimate the impact you can have on someone’s life — it matters more than you realize.
