My journey with YSS has been a defining foundation in shaping my identity as an impact-driven young leader. It began with my very first opportunity through YSS, the Mission to Sarawak in 2019, which was also part of an ASEAN mission. This experience was truly transformative, as it exposed me to diverse cultures and perspectives while allowing me to build meaningful friendships with peers from across ASEAN countries. Being part of this mission opened my eyes to the importance of regional collaboration, mutual understanding, and the role of youth in driving social change. It sparked my passion for volunteerism and planted the seeds for my continued involvement in community development initiatives.

Following that, I remained actively engaged in various volunteer development programs and collaborative initiatives, many of which emphasized a “low cost, high impact” approach. I learned that meaningful change does not always require large resources, but rather creativity, commitment, and a genuine desire to serve. Whether through community outreach, leadership programs, or student-driven initiatives, each experience contributed to my growth as a leader who values impact over recognition.

Throughout this journey, I have been deeply humbled and grateful to receive several recognitions, including being named a National Student Icon. However, I view these achievements not as personal milestones alone, but as a reflection of the collective efforts, mentorship, and support from the YSS community and beyond. These recognitions serve as a reminder of the responsibility I carry to continue contributing meaningfully to society.

My inspiration has always been rooted in the belief that leadership is not about titles or authority, but about the ability to inspire, uplift, and create positive change in the lives of others. Engaging directly with communities, managing programs, and working alongside individuals from different backgrounds have strengthened my empathy, resilience, and adaptability. These experiences have also enhanced my ability to think strategically, make inclusive decisions, and navigate challenges with a solution-oriented mindset. In addition, my involvement in international, national, and community-based platforms has broadened my worldview. It has taught me to appreciate diversity, embrace different perspectives, and understand the complexities of societal issues. More importantly, it has reinforced the importance of collaboration and collective action in addressing challenges that go beyond borders.

The most meaningful impact for me is not measured by scale, but by the lives touched and the positive changes created, no matter how small. Even a single initiative that brings value to a community is a step towards a larger transformation. These experiences have shaped me into a leader who is committed to continuous learning, service, and making a difference. To the youth and alumni of YSS, I would like to share a simple message: never underestimate the power of your contribution. No effort is ever too small when it is driven by sincerity and purpose. Continue to step forward, embrace opportunities, and serve with heart. Because in the end, it is these collective efforts that create lasting impact and shape a better future for all.
