Promoting green initiatives and environmental sustainability.
Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability is one of YSS’s six core volunteerism pillars, and it shows up in nearly every mission the foundation runs — not as a standalone eco-campaign, but as a practical thread woven into community projects on the ground.
Environmental work has ranged from organic waste management and composting for agricultural communities in Kampung Malau, Kedah, to environmental conservation efforts in Nanga Miaw during the Sarawak 2024 mission. YSS has also run dedicated environment-focused international missions, including the MADANI Berkhidmat: Green Summer Volunteer Campaign (GSVC) in Vietnam, where student volunteers worked directly with local communities on sustainability-focused projects alongside cultural exchange.
By tying environmental stewardship to hands-on volunteering rather than awareness campaigns alone, YSS aims to leave host communities with practical, lower-cost sustainability practices they can keep using long after the mission ends — in keeping with the foundation’s “low cost, high impact” philosophy.
