Leadership training and life skills for the changemakers of tomorrow.
Youth Empowerment is about what happens after the mission ends. YSS’s I.M.M.E.R.S.E values — Inclusiveness, Mutual respect, Meaningful service, Empowerment, the Right Volunteer for the Right Job, Sustainability, and Exemplary conduct — are deliberately built into a leadership pathway, not just a single volunteering trip.
The centrepiece of this pillar is the Volunteer Leadership Development Programme (VLDP), a multi-day residential programme for YSS alumni that covers leadership skills, communication, and social entrepreneurship. At VLDP 2024, held in Kuala Lumpur from 20 to 22 December, 150 student volunteer alumni completed the programme and were appointed as National Unity Agents at the YSS Alumni Appreciation Night — part of a wider cohort of 305 Unity Agents recognised that year for their commitment to advancing societal welfare.
Graduates of this pathway don’t just move on from YSS — they go on to mentor the next intake of volunteers, sit on community initiatives, and, in several cases, go on to national recognition of their own, from the Anugerah Perdana Belia Negara to Tokoh Siswa Negara. Youth Empowerment is how YSS turns a single mission into a lifelong track record of leadership.
